Just spotted this on Jane's E-Pick of the Day site and thought I'd drop it in here for all you aspiring space cadets out there ;-)
We Choose the Moon is still in pre-launch phase but is a recreation (in 'real' time) of the Apollo 11 moon mission. At this point I was able to listen to JFK's famous speech 'We choose the moon' , see pre-launch photos, and get set up to follow the astronauts and Kennedy Space Centre on Twitter and look at a lot of really cool photos.
I'm sure I'm going to appreciate Apollo 11 this time around a lot more than the first time. I can remember thinking as we watched back then -- "so what's all the big fuss? Did they think they wouldn't be able to get to the moon? The Jetson's live in outer space!"
Hmm, speaking of space cadets ...

A Tomorrow Movie's in the Works

Woot!
Some good news from the Read Alert blog - John Marsden's book, Tomorrow When the War Began is being made into a movie. You can read one of the press releases here.
I hadn't heard of the screen writer, Stuart Beattie before this but when I went on a hunt, I found this fascinating video interview and he now has my vote of confidence.
While hunting around for more information about the movie I also came across many fan-made trailers on YouTube for the book like here and here. There are lots more you can watch in the Related Videos sidebar.
From a Teacher-Librarian's point-of-view (multiliteracies focus) I thought it could be interesting to look at these different trailers for comparison and what works best to convey a sense of the book.

Back for More
Nope! I didn't get abducted by aliens or the US military.
Life sometimes pushes our best intentions over the edge and between work, study and family, I admit to having had to give up a lot of life’s pleasures just to regain some footing and that’s included writing here. But I’m really looking forward to being back on my blog and trying to record some of the things I run across/get caught up in as they happen. Cuz of course if I don't -- 20 minutes later I can't even remember them.

Gee! That doesn't make me part goldfish, does it?

Try a Neil Gaiman For Free - Part 2
Well see now, I knew I wouldn't be the only one interested in this offer of a free book. See who else is a Neil Gaiman fan? Shortly after I posted my last journal entry I got my first visit from the US Military. They will have to check back if they want the corrected URL for that free book from Harper Collins (see last entry).

have a nice day everyone =)

Try a Neil Gaiman For Free
I love getting stuff for free. I love getting books for free the most. I love getting books by favourite authors even more than the most! Harper Collins is offering one of Neil Gaiman's book free to download for the next few weeks (and one of his short stories in audio if you go to their site). Above is where you can have a look at the book online -- warning it is an exact replica so wade through all the blank pages at the beginning (looks like about twelve before the story begins).
EDITED UPDATE: Here's the updated URL for the book's downloading page
Advice from the experts- apparently you need to have Adobe Reader 6 or 7 or Adobe Digital editions to open the downloaded pdf. Thanks for that Dan Guy!
enjoy!

David and Brian Together Again
Oh Yay!
Like Christmas has come =) David Byrne and Brian Eno have made a new album.
I wish you could see the size of the smile on my face. It feels like visiting with your coolest old friends when you listen to this.
